The LuK name is highly respected within the world's automotive
and agricultural markets for its range of power train related products, with
approximately 1 in 4 cars produced worldwide being equipped with a LuK clutch
as original equipment.
LuK was the first clutch manufacturer in Europe to introduce
the diaphragm spring clutch. Today the diaphragm spring has almost completely
replaced the traditional coil spring in passenger cars, light trucks and tractors.
LuK builds some eight million diaphragm spring clutches annually and supplies
them to virtually all major automotive manufacturers worldwide.
The diaphragm spring clutch has been so successful for many
reasons. Its simple rotationally symmetrical design and low axial length make
it easier for automotive designers to fit the clutch into today's restricted
engine compartments. The diaphragm spring fingers also perform the release
function. In spite of high clamp load requirements, the spring's progressive
characteristic curve provides the low release loads demanded by today's comfort-minded
drivers.
